To enhance the efficiency of treatment for bacterial infections of the lower genital tract (vulvovaginitis and cervicitis) in the presence of bacterial vaginosis, the authors studied the possibilities of alternative therapy modalities in 139 women (whose mean age was 46,2±4,3 years), by monitoring a set of clinical and laboratory parameters. Alternative individualized treatment for the above disease was performed by replacing antibiotics with homologous bacteriophages, a plant pectin preparation, or oxygenated aqueous solutions of antiseptics (chlorhexidine or metronidazole). Schemes were developed for the rational use of each proposed alternative methods. It was proved that all the used therapy modalities for mixed bacterial infection of the lower genital tract in the presence of bacterial vaginosis were reasonably effective and comparable by the ultimate result of treatment, but, unlike antibiotics, devoid of adverse reactions, such as resistance to microorganisms, drug intolerance, and allergy, which makes alternative treatment more expedient, economically sound, and easy to use.
