In the process of endodontic preparation of the root canal system of molars, the search for their mouths often causes difficulties, which are associated with the anatomical features of their structure and topography, the presence of calcifications in the pulp chamber. Incorrect endodontic preparation of the root canal system can lead to such a complication as perforation of the bottom of the tooth cavity.

THE PURPOSE

Of the work is to determine the possibility of using the transillumination method to identify the mouths of the root canals of molars.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

16 people were examined — 7 (43%) men and 9 (57%) women — aged 36—58 years during endodontic preparation of molars diagnosed with K04.03 Chronic pulpitis (according to ICD-10). To visualize the mouths of root canals, a wireless LED polymerization lamp «Woodpecker» (China) with an intensity of 1000-1200 MW/cm was used, the beam of light of which was brought to the projection area of the tooth root from the palatine or lingual surface of the alveolar process, respectively, of the upper or lower jaw. The mouth of the root canal was visualized from the bottom of the pulp chamber of the tooth.

CONCLUSIONS

Based on the clinical example shown in the figures, it was concluded that the proposed method is easy to use, examination of the mouths of the root canals of molars takes little time and is absolutely safe for the patient.
