The article presents a review of the current literature on the use of diode lasers in the practice of a dentist. The areas of application of laser technologies in the treatment of various diseases of the oral cavity have been studied. A modern dental laser provides the dentist with the opportunity to significantly expand the range of services provided, since the laser meets all the necessary clinical standards and allows patients to perform safe, minimally invasive and painless interventions. The versatility of action and the high level of safety of the diode laser make it possible to use it in endodontics, periodontics, surgical dentistry, orthodontics, and teeth whitening, eliminating the risk of damage to the structure of hard tissues. Diode lasers of the latest generation have the ability to adjust the range of laser radiation energy, using the programs entered into the memory of the device for each clinical case, which makes working with it easy and safe. However, these parameters have average values and, if necessary, the dentist has the right to change them. Modern diode lasers have safety class IIB. The greatest danger that can result from misuse of a laser is damage to the retina if the beam is directed into the eye without proper protection. Use of the laser device for purposes other than those intended may lead to dangerous consequences. The laser beam has significant positive effects on human tissues only with the right choice of power level. The laser unit can be used to treat pregnant patients and patients with a pacemaker. The use of laser technologies significantly improves the quality and efficiency of the treatment, reduces the duration of treatment, and ensures the absence of relapses and complications. In this regard, the issue of expanding the indications for the use of diode lasers and improving the techniques remains relevant.
