Inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is a benign epithelial neoplasm with invasive growth. It tends to recur and pose a risk of malignancy transformation.

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the diagnosis and treatment results in patients with inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses after surgical intervention.

PATIENTS AND METHODS

The study included 11 patients with inverted papilloma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses who received surgical treatment at the otorhinolaryngological department in 2013—2020.

RESULTS

Eight patients had primary inverted papilloma, and three patients had recurrent inverted papilloma. Endoscopic endonasal surgery was performed in 10 patients; the navigational control was used in 5 of them. Combined access was used in 1 patient. All the surgical specimens were sent for histological examination; if necessary, intraoperative histological express examination was performed.

CONCLUSION

Current technology allows the removal of inverted papilloma using minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, even when the tumor spreads into the frontal sinus, provided state-of-the-art equipment and adequately trained surgeon are available.
