Currently, chronic non-infectious diseases (NIDs) called «diseases of civilization» have become the leading causes of death worldwide. A Western-style diet high in red meat, milk, processed and refined foods, sugar, salt, and low in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains is recognized as an important factor in the development of many NIDs. The review examines the epidemiological consequences of the Western-style diet and the mechanisms underlying the pathological processes. The questions of the influence of the Paleolithic diet on the human body in the context of returning to nature are discussed.
