Severe thermal trauma is still life-threatening disease with high incidence of severe complications despite significant progress in the treatment of these patients. Standard treatment strategy is surgical excision of necrotic skin followed by autodermoplasty. However, extensive and deep burn wounds may be associated with donor skin deficit. Therefore, cell therapy may be required. This review is devoted to development of cell therapy, historical aspects and current trends in the treatment of patients with thermal trauma using cell technology. The authors presented a new experimental method of wound formation for analysis of biological wound coatings and cell therapy.
