Abstract:

Hepatectomy is the most effective treatment in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) metastases to the liver. As of now, its resectability criteria are reconsidered and expanded, by including the patients in whom all metastases can be removed with a negative resection margin and an adequate remaining liver parenchymal volume. However, only 30% of patients are eligible for initial hepatectomy. The indications for resection may be additionally expanded, by combining it with radiofrequency and other ablations and/or by reducing the size of a metastatic tumor (preoperative chemotherapy). The treatment of CRC liver metastases requires a modern strategy based on an comprehensive approach.
