OBJECTIVE
To carry out an initial assessment of the process of nursing staff adaptation to professional conditions, to determine models of adaptation and to develop a technology for managing the success of adaptation to working activity.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study was performed on the basis of the Federal Research and Clinical Center for Children and Adolescents of the Federal Biological and Medical Agency. Anonymous survey for the nursing staff (n=90) was performed according to a specially designed questionnaire consisting of three sets and 20 questions. Statistical data processing was done using Excel and JASP v 0.16 application program package. The qualitative characteristics are presented as proportions (%) with indication of absolute value. Non-parametric Mann—Witney U-test and parametric Student’s t-test were used in order to evaluate the differences between qualitative features. Statistical significance level of differences — p≤0.05.
RESULTS
The possibility of doing clinical and scientific work proved to be the least important for the respondents (p<0.001), and good relations with the direct supervisor are more attractive than social prestige and professional development, as well as more important than the workplace organization (p=0.004). It has been established that the nursing staff is in need of professional adaptation on completing the educational organization and at the change of institution, but estimate of the need for adaptation after a break in work is lower (p=0.001). More than 63% of respondents indicated the need for introduction and regulation of mentoring. The duration of professional adaptation has been determined for «Young specialist», «Break in work» and «Transition» models. Technology of managing adaptation successfulness has been developed.
CONCLUSION
The process of adaptation to professional activity is differentiated into three models: «Young specialist», «Break in work» and «Transition». The development of standardized personalized programs of adaptation, implementation of staff management system with team-building component and mentoring development are required in medical settings.
