OBJECTIVE

To analyze safety, immediate and long-term results of transarterial chemoembolization and isolated liver chemoperfusion in patients with liver metastases of uveal melanoma.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Searching for literature data (PubMed, eLibrary, Cochrane Library databases) was carried out in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 recommendations (checklist and flowchart). Seven studies were selected. Selection criteria: liver metastases of uveal melanoma, transarterial chemoembolization, isolated liver chemoperfusion. The endpoints were postoperative mortality, objective response rate, overall survival and recurrence-free survival. In all studies, these parameters were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier method.

RESULTS

Objective response rate, overall and recurrence-free survival were significantly higher after isolated liver chemoperfusion. At the same time, incidence of complications and postoperative mortality were significantly lower after transarterial chemoembolization.

CONCLUSION

Isolated chemoperfusion is a perspective method in the treatment of patients with liver metastases of uveal melanoma. Minimally invasive technique of isolated liver perfusion may be effective to reduce the incidence of postoperative complications and mortality.
