Abstract:

Hypertrophic form is the most rare atypical form of the genital lichen planus (LP). Differential diagnosis with squamous cell carcinoma of the skin is complicated due to the fact that it is often associated with pseudocancerous epidermal hyperplasia and the possibility of malignant transformation. Experience in treatment of vulvar hypertrophic LP is limited due to the rarity of this disease. This paper presents a case of hypertrophic LP of the vulva and lower extremities in a 67-year-old female patient. The pathological process was resolved only after intake of synthetic antimalarial drug chloroquine, tetracycline, and applications of calcineurin inhibitors.
