OBJECTIVE

To study symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of congenital urinary tract diverticula in children.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

There were 14 children younger 17 years with congenital urinary tract diverticula. We analyzed anamnestic, physical and laboratory data, results of X-ray and other urological diagnostic procedures including CT, ultrasound, cystoscopy and catheterization of ureters, morphological examination of surgical specimens. Three clinical cases are presented.

RESULTS

Congenital urethral diverticulum was diagnosed in 6 children, bladder — in 7, ureter — in 1 case. X-ray urological methods and ureterocystoscopy were crucial in diagnosis. Surgical treatment of urinary tract diverticula (subtotal resection and diverticulectomy) is a radical method in childhood.

CONCLUSION

Congenital urinary tract diverticula in childhood are rare. Vague abdominal pain, pain when urinating, changes in urine tests are the main symptoms of disease. Diagnosis of congenital urinary tract diverticula involves complete urological examination. Surgical treatment was favorable in all children.
