Abstract:

Chylothorax is a rare but serious complication after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). As a rule, it is a result of thoracic duct injury during internal thoracic artery harvesting. It is presented case report of 65-year-old man with large chylous pleural effusion diagnosed in 3 days after CABG. Biochemical analysis confirmed diagnosis of chylothorax. Considering ineffective medication and total parenteral nutrition, surgical repair was performed via thoracoscopic access. This rare complication is possible because of high degree of anatomic variability of the thoracic duct system.
