Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

The assess patient satisfaction with endovascular and sugical treatment for pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS).

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A prospective cohort study included 100 patients with PCS who underwent endovascular embolization (EEGV, n=71; 1st group) or endoscopic resection of the gonadal veins (ERGV, n=29; 2nd group) in 2012-2020. Patients were asked to evaluate statements using a 5-point Likert questionnaire to assess their satisfaction with endovascular and surgical treatment. The assessments were carried out in 7 days and 6 months after interventions.

RESULTS

In 7 days after interventions, a total of 100% and 80.3% of patients were completely satisfied with endovascular embolization and endoscopic resection of the gonadal veins, respectively. In the 1st group, 19.7% of patients were completely dissatisfied with the treatment due to post-embolization syndrome (PES). After 6 months, 100% of patients in both groups were satisfied with the treatment. The overall score of the Likert questionnaire was increased in both groups after 6 months compared to this value after 7 days (from 20.7 to 22.4 points (p=0.015) in the 1st group and from 18.4 to 22.0 points (p=0.011) in the 2nd group). The overall scores were similar in both groups after 6 months that confirms efficacy and safety of EEGV and ERGV.

CONCLUSION

Endovascular embolization and endoscopic resection of the gonadal veins are accompanied by high satisfaction in patients with PCS.
