The present study was designed with the object of comparative analysis of the safety and efficacy of anti-ulcer compression hosiery kits for the treatment of venous trophic ulcer in the crural region; the secondary objective was to estimate compliance of the patients with this problem using these kits. The open randomized study included 45 patients under 65 years of age. The area of the ulcer defect varied from 5.2 to 25 cm2. The patients of the main group (n=30) were given compression therapy with the use of Venoteks Leg Ulcer Heal hosiery anti-ulcer kits while those of the control group (n=15) used mid-stretch elastic bandages. A significant decrease of the average area of trophic ulcers (from 12.86±1.28 to 5.25±0.89 cm2) after the 28 day-long treatment was documented in the patients of the main group. There was no apparent decrease of this parameter in the control group. The ulcer epithelization rate in the former group was twice that in the latter one; it exceeded 2% per day, i.e. was close to the efficiency of healing of an acute wound. Complete epithelization was achieved in 20% patients of the main group compared with 0% among the controls. Comparison of subjective estimates of the efficacy of Venoteks Leg Ulcer Heal anti-ulcer hosiery kits has demonstrated their obvious advantages over ordinary elastic bandages for the treatment of patients presenting with venous trophic ulcer in the crural region.
