OBJECTIVE
To evaluate the clinical efficacy and tolerability of the «Enema Clean» in women with constipation after independent and operative delivery; to determine the patients’ adherence to this type of therapy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study involved 48 pregnant women suffering from the constipation at the in-hospital stage: 33 after independent delivery, 15 after cesarean section. A survey of patients was carried out according to the author’s questionnaire before the use of a disposable «Enema Clean» (laxative) and after it.
RESULTS
In patients at puerperia the constipation before and during pregnancy were occurred in 62.4% of cases. Clinical symptoms of constipation as a feeling of discomfort in the intestines (39.4%), distention (29.1%) and/or pain (10.4%) in the anus were significantly more often observed in patients after independent delivery than after surgery. Absence of stool for 3 days and more occurred in 68.8% of cases. The use of a disposable «Enema Clean» led to a soft discharge of formed feces in 93.8%; the feeling of complete emptying of the intestines in 83.3% of cases. Adverse events like pain (8.3%) or itching (2.1%) in the anal area on the first day after the clyster were registered only in the group of patients after independent delivery. This type of therapy for constipation was recognized as comfortable in 68.8% of cases; 93.8% of patients are ready to use it in the future; to acquaint relatives and friends with it — 95.8% of patients.
CONCLUSION
The «Enema Clean» is one of the most effective and safe methods of constipation correction in maternity patients regardless the method of their delivery.
