The clinical and laboratory features of uterine bleeding were analyzed in 220 HIV-infected patients emergently admitted to Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital Two. The majority of patients were young women aged 21 to 30 years who had subclinical (Stage 3) disease. It was shown that 80.0% of the patients had no organic endo- and myometrial defects or hormonal changes causing anovulation and dysfunction of the ovaries. Among these patients, most (74.4%) were found to have thrombocytopenia or hypofunction of the plasma component of the coagulation system, which could conclude that dysfunctional uterine bleeding in HIV-infected patients was due to coagulopathy. Conventional treatment was shown to fail to produce a lasting therapeutic effect; the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) in combination treatment resulted in compensation in 92.9% of the patients. The need to use ART in the combination therapy of HIV-infected patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding corroborates the results of their examination during treatment, namely: a significant rise in platelets, a reduction in viral load, and recovery of CD4+ levels.
