A randomized placebo-controlled study covering 70 patients with moderate climacteric syndrome (CS) was conducted to get more specific information on the efficiency and safety of treatment using a red clover (Trifolium pratens) extract in patients with CS. A random sampling technique was used to divide the patients into 2 groups: 1) 35 women with moderate CS who received the red clover extract (feminal) in a dose of 40 mg once daily for 12 months; 2) 35 women with moderate CS who took placebo once daily for 3 months. Dynamics in CS symptoms was traced using the modified menopausal index. The red clover extract was found to be significantly more effective than placebo.
