The authors studied the course of pregnancy, labor, and postpartum in 110 patients with fetal macrosomy and the state of their newborn infants at birth and in early neonatality. A control group comprised 70 patients with normal-weight fetuses and their neonates. The study showed that fetal macrosomy was characterized by an increase in the number of second-half pregnancy complications (gestosis, anemia, hydramnion, late placental aging). Labor was frequently complicated by secondary uterine inertia and the clinical picture of the narrow pelvis. There was an increase in the rate of large baby births in asphyxia; neurological disorders were frequently detected in early neonatality.
