OBJECTIVE

To develop a method for selecting the surgical intervention depending on the anatomical features of the third molar in the cyst cavity, using the classical surgical techniques for follicular jaw cysts.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

In the polyclinic department of the Department of Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery, 28 patients aged 18 to 40 years were treated for tooth-containing cysts of the lower jaw, the cause of which is the retention of the third molars.

CONCLUSION

In the case of follicular (tooth-containing) jaw cysts, depending on the location of the tooth in the cyst cavity, the relationship with the anatomical features of the jaw bones (mandibular canal, the edge of the lower jaw), all three types of surgical intervention can be used: cystectomy, cystotomy and plastic cystectomy.
