The end of the 19th century was marked in Russia by the reform of dental education, in particular by the opening of private dental schools, which changed the system of dentists’ training in the offices of tutors. According to the reports of the head of the First Moscow dental school I.M. Kovarsky, during the first ten years of the school only about half of those who entered it could graduate. One of the reasons for it could have been very high education price. To assist students, the school established special scholarships and established the « Society for the Aid to Students in Need «.
