OBJECTIVE

Improving the effectiveness of endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A stent for draining a dacryostomy in endoscopic endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy (RF Patent RU No. 201235) has been developed and tested in clinical practice; it consisting of sterile sheet silicone of 2 mm thick in the shape of the letter «T».

RESULTS

Surgical treatment of 20 patients with dacryocystitis was performed using the proposed stent. Complications and relapses of the disease were not observed in all 20 cases.

CONCLUSION

The proposed stent is quite simple to manufacture and use, it is simulated intraoperatively based on the anatomical features of the nasal cavity, prevents scarring and overgrowth of the formed dacryostomy.
