Abstract:

As potential drugs to restore fertility aromatase inhibitors (AI) was first introduced into medical practice over 15 years ago. There have been a number of studies using letrozole for ovulation induction: in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), clomiphene citrate (CC) resistant women, during intrauterine insemination, as well as various protocols of mild stimulation in in vitro fertilization (IVF). Letrozole is a promising drug for the treatment of infertility in connection with the possibility of its oral administration, low cost, shorter half-life than CC, and minimum side effects. However, the final decision regarding the efficacy and safety of letrozole is still missing. In order to establish the true potential of this drug as a treatment for infertility, it is necessary to conduct a larger number of randomized controlled trials. This article provides a review of scientific data regarding the use of letrozole as ovulation inductor.
