OBJECTIVE

To analyze the role of clinical and anatomical classification of Asian eyelids by sagittal slice in the choice of upper eyelid surgery.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We analyzed 3000 Asian patients who underwent Asian blepharoplasty or correction of age-related blepharochalasis. All patients were divided into 2 groups (main and control). We developed clinical and anatomical classification of Asian eyelids by sagittal slice. The last one was used for upper eyelid surgery in Asian patients.

RESULTS

We found reduction of surgery time. Postoperative morbidity was 1.2% in the main group and 2.4% in the control group. Patient satisfaction was 96% and 85% in both groups, respectively.

CONCLUSION

Clinical and anatomical classification of Asian eyelids by sagittal slice makes it possible to systematize the shapes and anatomical features of various forms of Asian eyelids. Considering these data, we can determine treatment strategy and preoperative planning, as well as improve an effectiveness of surgical interventions.
