Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the cosmetic effect, scar strength and healing time of a postoperative skin wound after Z-grafting and sequential application of spray formulation of cerium-containing N-acetyl-6-aminohexanoic acid compound in the experiment.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

18 white laboratory Vistar rats and 9 mini-pigs underwent Z-shaped grafting of wounded skin in the area of the withers with opposite flaps. All animals were assigned into 3 groups: control group; animals which received the reference drug Panthenol locally on the wound area; animals which were treated by the spray formulation of cerium-containing compound of N-acetyl-6-aminohexanoic acid (LHT-8-17). On days 3, 7, 14 and 21, the healing time and the cosmetic effect was evaluated according to the SCAR scale. The strength of the formed scar was assessed at the end of the study.

RESULTS

Local application of LHT-8-17 reduced the healing time of the surgical wound in rats to 17±13 days vs. control (p=0.03), increases the strength of the scar on 27% vs. control in rats and on 17% vs. control in mini-pigs. Experimental treatment improved the cosmetic characteristics of the scar at day 21 of the study.

CONCLUSION

The study showed the effectiveness of using a spray formulation of cerium-containing N-acetyl-6-aminohexanoic acid compound when followed Z-shaped skin plastic surgery. The healing action was characterized not only by a reduction in the healing time of a postoperative wound, but also an improvement in the strength and cosmetic features of scar tissue.
