OBJECTIVE

To study the overall survival rates of patients with cerebral gliomas of varying degrees of malignancy after surgical treatment and the use of standard chemo- and radiation therapy regimens.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The results of combined treatment of 479 patients with cerebral gliomas operated on at the Orenburg Regional Clinical Hospital from 2018 to 2022 and subsequently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy at the Orenburg Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary were analysed. The overall survival rates of patients with cerebral gliomas of varying degrees of malignancy after surgical treatment and standard regimens of chemo- and radiation therapy.

RESULTS

The median overall survival for low-grade gliomas was found to be 54.6±2.4 months on average, 20.3±0.8 months for anaplastic gliomas, and 12.5±3.2 months for glioblastomas. Five-year survival was noted in 76.8% of patients with low-grade gliomas, 15.8% with anaplastic gliomas, and 2.6% with glioblastomas.

CONCLUSION

Overall and five-year survival rates, and the duration of the relapse-free period in patients with cerebral gliomas significantly depend on the histological type of tumor, the patient’s age, the volume of the removed tumor, and the earliest prescription of radiation and chemotherapy.
