Abstract:

Over 50% of cancer patients need radiotherapy. However, the volume of its use and availability worldwide are much below the estimated needs of cancer patients. This is due to the insufficient financing of the health system and the ever-increasing costs of current treatment technologies. To optimize the organizational component of treatment is one of the ways to enhance the availability of radiotherapy. The insufficient capacity of radiology hospitals is a serious impediment to the expansion of radiotherapy volumes. In this case, the majority of patients may receive radiotherapy in an outpatient setting. An organizational treatment form, such as a day radiotherapy hospital, makes it possible to implement full-volume medical measures and to reduce the queue for treatment, thus enhancing the availability of radiotherapy for patients.
