Abstract:

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) holds one of the world’s leading positions in its mortality among urinary tract cancers. According to different authors, the incidence of bilateral RCC is 2—6% of the entire cohort of patients with RCC. Surgery is the only effective treatment for bilateral RCC. Patients with bilateral RCC are a group at high risk for local recurrence or progression of the disease after organ-sparing surgery; in this connection the choice between the high risk of kidney failure or recurrence and/or progression of the disease in relation to surgical volumes faces a surgeon. Patients with bilateral RCC show an increased detection rate for papillary RCC up to 19% and have multifocal lesion. Surgery for bilateral RCC is the only effective treatment that can yield satisfactory oncological results at lower complication rates. Bilateral organ-sparing treatment that can achieve optimal functional results is the most reasonable therapeutic option for bilateral RCC. This paper describes a clinical case of long-term successful surgical treatment in a patient with bilateral RCC.
