Dermatological disorders often occur in the perianal area and require an accurate and logical approach. Perianal pruritus (PAP) is defined as itching, localized in the anus area, occurs in 1–5% of the adult population. Men get sick more often than women, the ratio is 4: 1. Most patients belong to the 30–70 age group, especially in the 40–60 age group. Features of skin structure of the perianal area, etiology and pathogenesis of PAP, clinical manifestations and modern methods of treatment are considered. Causes of PAP can be roughly divided into primary (idiopathic) and secondary (infectious and non-infectious). The most common anorectal diseases associated with PAP are hemorrhoids and anal fissures. As etiological factor, skin diseases include contact dermatitis, lichen planus, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, vitiligo, squamous cell carcinoma, Paget’s disease. Psychological factors such as anxiety, agitation and stress can also cause PAP. A carefully collected history can often help determine the cause of the itching. The medical history should include clarification of changes in dietary habits, and details of any other previous or current dermatological or gastrointestinal problems. A clinical case with a positive effect of treatment with external use of an activated glycyrrhizic acid preparation is presented.
