Objective — the objective of this study it to evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy, including narrowband medium wave ultraviolet B irradiation (UVB) with a wavelength of 311 nm, and the topical application of Vitiskin antioxidant gel in patients with vitiligo compared to the results of therapy with neutral gel. Material and methods. A total of 72 patients with vitiligo randomly selected for this study were randomized into three groups of 24 patients each. Group 1 patients were administered with neutral gel during the first 4 weeks of treatment and Vitiskin gel in combination with phototherapy (UVB with a wavelength of 311 nm) during the following 10 weeks. Group 2 patients received topical gel in combination with narrow-band phototherapy for 10 weeks. Group 3 patients received only Vitiskin topical gel for 14 weeks. Results. Topical application of Vitiskin gel either as monotherapy or in combination with narrowband phototherapy (UVB with a wavelength of 311 nm) has a positive effect in the form of perifollicular and peripheral repigmentation in vitiligo patients compared to the results obtained in the control group patients who were administered with neutral gel. Combination therapy (Vitiskin topical gel and narrowband UVB therapy at a wavelength of 311 nm) provided good immediate results of treatment of vitiligo. Simultaneous combination therapy (gel plus UVB) provided the best effect, however, tolerability of treatment was better in group 1. Conclusions. Administration of Vitiskin gel as a topical therapy in combination with UVB (311 nm) exerts a significant effect in patients with vitiligo.
