The social significance of herpes virus infection is caused by its widespread occurrence, the possibility of complications and its influence on the psychosomatic status and quality of life of patients. Objective. The study was aimed at assessing the effect of systemic chemotherapy with valacyclovir (Valvira) on the course of genital herpes. Material and methods. The efficacy of suppressive therapy with Valvira was assessed in 32 female patients aged 20—46 years with frequently recurrent genital herpes. Results. High efficacy of valacyclovir suppressive therapy was demonstrated. Conclusions. Systemic suppressive therapy of genital herpes allows patients to control the course of the disease, affects the psycho-emotional state, reduces the risk of transmission of causative agent to sexual partners.
