Abstract:

Blood sera obtained from 25 patients with vitiligo and 12 healthy subjects were available for the measurement of cholesterol and total phospholipid levels as well as their individual fractions. The cholesterol concentration in patients presenting with vitiligo were found to be twice lower than in controls. The levels of phosphatidyl inosit, cardiolipin, and phosphatidyl choline also decreased. Conversely, the levels of lysophosphatidyl choline and phosphatidic acid sharply increased in patients with vitiligo. The results of the study indicate that disturbances of lipid metabolism play an important role in pathogenesis of vitiligo.
