Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To determine the indications for minimally invasive technologies in patients with spontaneous esophageal rupture (SRE).

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We analyzed treatment outcomes in 27 patients with SRE between 2017 and 2023. They underwent minimally invasive treatment: videothoracoscopy, endoscopic vacuum treatment (EVT), percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy.

RESULTS

EVT eliminated purulent process and provided primary healing of esophageal defect in 11 (40.4%) patients. Complications occurred in 16 (59.67%) patients, including fistulas (9; 33.3%) and esophageal stenosis within the perforation zone (5; 18.5%). Seven (25.9%) patients died.

CONCLUSION

Endoscopic vacuum treatment combined with videothoracoscopy and endoscopic gastrostomy in patients with spontaneous esophageal rupture is an effective minimally invasive method of treatment.
