Transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation: review of the valves approved for clinical application

Widespread reconstructions of right ventricular outflow tract increase the number of patients requiring redo pulmonary valve surgery. The use of artificial synthetic or biological materials as a locking element instead of the own pulmonary artery valve or in addition to it eventually leads to loss of tissue properties. These patients require pulmonary valve replacement for stenosis or severe regurgitation in long-term postoperative period. This review is devoted to modern valves for transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation after previous right ventricular outflow tract reconstruction. The authors discuss the indications and limitations for their use, technical aspects of implantation and possible postoperative complications. The main characteristics of the valves are presented. Early and long-term results of transcatheter pulmonary valve implantation and features of these procedures in children are described.
