Abstract:

Aim — comparative assessment of mid-term results after rigid rings or flexible bands implantation in patients with mitral valve (MV) disease and concomitant moderate tricuspid regurgitation (TR). Material and methods. There were 308 comparable patients who had indications for MV surgery and concomitant TR for the period from September 2016 to February 2018. They were randomized into 2 groups. In the first group, patients underwent MV surgery and concomitant tricuspid valve (TV) annuloplasty by a rigid ring (Rigid group, n=154). In the second group, MV surgery was followed by TV annuloplasty by a flexible band (Flex group, n=154). Results. Perioperative mortality was 2.0% in Rigid group and 2.5% in Flex group (p=0.504). Need for pacemaker implantation was similar in both groups (5.1 vs. 2.6%, p=0.238). Annual freedom from recurrent TR was 96.7% in Rigid group and 96.1% in Flex group (p=0.521). Incidence of thromboembolic events was similar in both groups for the same period (5.3% in Rigid group vs. 4.7% in Flex group, p=0.791). Conclusion. Rigid ring and flexible band appear to have the same efficacy in the prevention of recurrent TR in patients undergoing MV surgery.
