Abstract:

Aim — to assess an effectiveness of various antihypertensive drugs for hypertension management. Material and methods. 389 patients with non-life-threatening blood pressure (BP) elevation were enrolled to compare various drug combinations. Results. It was shown that efficacy of moxonidine + furosemide, moxonidine + nifedipine and captopril + furosemide combinations overcame 87% with low incidence of adverse events that justifies advisability of their administration for emergency medical care including self-care. Nifedipine combined with captopril was associated with decreased antihypertensive effect and increased incidence of adverse events. Optimal combinations of medicines for self-care should be determined during emergency medical care so that both the doctor and the patient can be convinced of the efficacy and good tolerability of the drugs. It was also concluded that active self-care for elevated blood pressure significantly decreased the number of calls for emergency medical care.
