Abstract:

Aim — to compare functional state of internal mammary artery (IMA) and great saphenous vein (GSV) depending on anatomical state of coronary arteries (CA) (diameter and severity of atherosclerotic changes). Material and methods. Functional state of 1194 grafts was assessed in 567 patients for the period from 6 months to 10 years after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) (5.8±1.3 years on the average). Results. Good long-term results may be obtained for both IMA and GSV grafts if CA diameter over 1.5 mm (87.2% vs. 90.6%; p>0.05). IMA graft should be preferred for revascularization of small vessels (less than 1.5 mm) especially in case of diffuse changes (64.1% vs. 39.7%; p>0.5).
