Abstract:

External jugular vein (EJV) aneurysms are rare vascular malformations. Therefore, early diagnosis may be delayed and the likelihood of complications (thrombosis, embolism, thrombophlebitis) remains unknown. Diagnosis of EJV aneurysms is based on Doppler ultrasound and CT / MR angiography. Surgical treatment is performed mainly for cosmetic reasons, but in some cases due to pain or other symptoms. We present a 54-year-old female patient who complained of painful tumor-like mass in the left posterior triangle of the neck. We diagnosed EJV aneurysm with occlusive thrombosis. Successful treatment of venous malformation included surgical resection of thrombosed aneurysm. This authors discuss modern issues and current approaches to the management of patients with venous aneurysms of the neck.
