Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To assess an effectiveness of oral sulodexide in patients with post-thrombotic syndrome and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) in daily practice.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A subanalysis of data from the Russian multiple-center prospective observational study ALLEGRO was performed. Patients with postthrombotic syndrome and chronic venous insufficiency (C3-C4, Es) received sulodexide capsule therapy. A total of 158 patients who came to all three visits were analyzed. We estimated 14 symptoms and signs of CVI according to a 4-point scale of the Likert type. A subanalysis included the number, total score and severity of each venous symptom or sign between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd visits. Data collection of the ALLEGRO study was carried out in the Registry of Chronic Vein Disease of the Russian Phlebological Association.

RESULTS

Mean numbers of symptoms (M±SD) at visits 1, 2 and 3 were 5.1±1.9, 4.1±1.7 and 3.1±1.4, respectively. Overall scores of symptoms (M±SD) were 9.0±3.6, 5.3±2.6 and 3.4±1.8, respectively. Mean score of each symptom at the 1st and 3rd visits (M1; M3) was 0.4 and 0.1 for pain, 0.2 and 0 for throbbing, 0.6 and 0.1 for tightness, 1.4 and 0.4 for heaviness, 1.1 and 0.3 for fatigue, 1.9 and 0.8 for feeling of swelling, 0.1 and 0 for cramps, 0.1 and 0 for itching, 0.8 and 0.3 for restless legs, 0 and 0 for tingling, 0.1 and 0 for heat or burning sensation, 1.8 and 0.9 for edema, 0.4 and 0.4 for hyperpigmentation, 0.1 and 0.1 for induration.

CONCLUSION

Oral sulodexide is effective in reducing or eliminating venous symptoms and signs in patients with postthrombotic syndrome of the lower extremities.
