Abstract:

Successful emergency pulmonary thrombectomy in a patient after previous neurosurgery is reported in the article. The relevance of this issue is determined by high incidence of pulmonary embolism in neurosurgical patients. According to some researchers, this event accounts up to 15% of all postoperative complications and determines up to 10% of deaths. The complexity of the problem is aggravated by specificity of these patients, as well as the absence of a single algorithm for risk stratification. Analysis of modern literature data confirmed that optimization and strict adherence to risk stratification algorithm for venous thromboembolic complications in neurosurgical patients and the use of modern methods of active prevention of venous thromboembolic complications will reduce mortality rates in these severe patients. Pulmonary thrombectomy may be considered for massive PE.
