Aim — to elucidate the cause of discomfort in the lower limbs in patients with С0S and C1S who are asking for primary consultation of phlebologist. Material and methods. 133 consecutive patients with COS and C1S were recruited to the study including 117 (88%) women and 16 (12%) men at the age from 29 to 76 (mean 45,2) years. Clinical and duplex ultrasound examination was performed first by a phlebologist, then by a psychiatrist. All the patients filled in questionnaires to reveal restless leg syndrome, neuropathic syndrome, a somatoform disorder, and the psychic status. Results. The isolated neuropathic syndrome was diagnosed in 101 (76%) patients, its combination with restless leg syndrome and somatoform disorder in 52 (33%), 4 (3%) patients respectively; all the three conditions occurred in 45 (34%) cases. A somatoform disorder was found in 57 (43%) cases. Seven and four patients had it in the combination with restless leg syndrome and with neuropathic syndrome, respectively. 100 (75%) patients presented with affective symptoms including depression in 52 (39%) of them, an anxiety disorder in 43 (32%) cases, and somatoform disorders in 57 (43%) patients. Conclusion. A large number of patients presenting with C0S and C1S and seeking medical assistance because of discomfort in the legs were found to have either restless leg syndrome, neuropathic syndrome or somatoform disorder.
