The present study included 76 patients (mean age 61.5±1.5 years) presenting with trophic ulcers of whom 47 were given traditional basal therapy and 29 were additionally treated with the use of ximedon. The efficacy of the treatment was estimated from the severity of pain syndrome, the size of trophic lesions by the end of the treatment period, and the epithelization rate of the ulcer defect. Pain syndrome completely resolved in 47.9% of the patients in the study group and in 23.4% in the control group (p<0.05). The treatment with ximedon accelerated the onset and the completion of the wound bed cleansing by 35.5% and 31.4% respectively (p<0.001). Complete epithelization of ulcer defects on day 21 after the beginning of therapy was documented in 48.3% of the patients treated with ximedon compared within 19.1% of the control patients. By the time of termination of therapy complete epithelization occurred in more than 75% and in 36.3% of the patients of the respective groups. The results of the study give reason to include ximedon in the combined treatment of patients presenting with venous trophic ulcers.
