Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

The aim of the study: to demonstrate the technical aspects and analyze the risk of possible complications after thoracoscopic removal of a large esophageal leiomyoma.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A 35-year-old patient was examined with suspected coronavirus infection COVID-19. CT scan of the chest was performed, which revealed as a diagnostic finding: a neoplasm at the level of the lower third of the thoracic esophagus about 6 cm in size. Esophageal endosonography and EUS typing revealed an extraluminal type of tumor growth, and therefore thoracoscopic enucleation of a large esophageal leiomyoma was performed.

RESULTS

The time of surgery was 115 minutes. The postoperative period was uneventful. The patient was discharged on the postoperative 6th day after the restoration of oral nutrition. In the long-term period with a follow-up period of 24 months, control studies (EGD, CT scan of the chest) did not reveal the presence of a diverticulum and stenosis of the esophagus at the site of surgery. At the moment, patient has no complaints.

CONCLUSION

This clinical case demonstrates the advantages of thoracoscopic approach in enucleation esophageal leiomyoma with extraluminal type of growth.
