In October 2018—March 2020, the All-Russian Public Organization «Federation of Anesthesiologists and Reanimatologists» (FAR) and GORTIS Research Center conducted a voluntary survey of 3108 out of about 35.000 Russian anesthesiologists and intensivists using specially designed questionnaires. About 96.5% of respondents were aware about FAR. However, 60.7% of respondents did not take part in its activities, 57.3% did not know about the «Strategy for FAR development until 2020», 52.9% — about FAR committees for various directions, 16.3% — about the branch of FAR in their region, 11.4% of respondents did not visit the FAR website. Non-participation in national society was explained by lack of time in 78.3% of questionnaires, 15.5% of respondents did not recognise any practical benefit for themselves, 7.9% did not believe in effectiveness of FAR work at all. FAR members are 55.1% of respondents, but most of them did not see the advantages of such membership. Out of 628 respondents aware of advantages of FAR membership, 82.6% consider information support, 64.4% note the opportunity to participate in «FAR Schools», 49.4% — less cost of participation in scientific and educational events, 42.5 % — opportunity to consult with leading experts. According to respondent opinions, the main problems of anesthesiology-intensive care service in their regions are understaffing with modern equipment, medicines (80%), and personnel (67.6%), low social status of doctors (65.2%) and insufficient level of their legal (61.6%) and professional (51.4%) training. At the same time, 18.7% of respondents believe that public organizations are useless to solve these problems. The authors believe that situation in FAR does not fundamentally differ from other national professional communities. Various possibilities of educational, accreditation and rule-making activity of FAR, as well as involvement of the most active young specialists are required to improve an efficiency of organization.
