OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the possibility of continuous monitoring of craniospinal compliance as a predictor of effective neurological resuscitation.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Intracranial pressure measurements were retrospectively analyzed in 326 patients aged 3—49 years with benign hydrocephalus for the period 1991—2015. All patients underwent clinical neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid survey for medical reasons at the Polenov Neurosurgical Institute.

RESULTS

We determined specific criteria of correlation of ICP and craniospinal compliance with predictors of clinical deterioration. Practical implementation of these criteria is possible via continuous hardware registration without additional invasive procedures during ICP monitoring. This approach reduced reaction period to pathological changes and contributes to personification of treatment strategy via quantitative and qualitative parameters of cerebral monitoring.

CONCLUSION

Three CSS states (compensated, decompensated and hypertension-dislocation syndrome) were confirmed. We determine the methods indicating approximation of CSS to the boundary between these states. Moreover, the parameters indicating this transition were specified.
