OBJECTIVE
To analyze mindfulness therapy and virtual reality technology in the treatment of patients with chronic back pain, to develop original virtual reality scene for appropriate subsequent studies.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
We reviewed the international databases (Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed) using the following keywords: chronic pain, mindfulness therapy, virtual reality technology. To create own original virtual scene and appropriate scenario, we surveyed 100 patients with chronic back pain.
RESULTS
According to available literature data, mindfulness therapy reduces chronic back pain through higher self-efficacy, confidence in ability to achieve stated goals and perform specific objectives. Mindfulness meditation strengthens the ability to self-regulate affective appraisals of nociceptive input. Mindfulness-based therapy helps patients to accept chronic pain and reduces the need to control or avoid pain. Mindfulness therapy through virtual reality technology enhances therapeutic effect of mindfulness thanks to individually selected virtual scene. We surveyed 100 patients with chronic back pain to determine a virtual scene scenario that would solve the above-mentioned problems.
CONCLUSION
Mindfulness is a modern approach in cognitive behavioral therapy. Pain relief is due to increased activation of brain areas involved in cognitive and emotional assessment of chronic pain. Virtual reality technology potentiates therapeutic effects of mindfulness-based therapy. A virtual scene scenario is developed. Domestic clinical researches are necessary to increase the effectiveness of rehabilitation in patients with chronic back pain.
