ABSTRACT The article presents Russian and international scientific publications dealing with evaluation of the role of psychological and psychosocial factors in the pathogenesis of skin diseases. Psychological mechanisms play an important role in the development, exacerbation, persistence, course, and prognosis of dermatological disorders. The authors presented current concepts of psychosomatic and somatopsychic relationships in the development of skin pathology and mental disorders, mainly the borderline states with allowance for modern classifications. The course of immuno-mediated dermatoses often depends on the intensity and frequency of stresses. Clinical manifestations of skin diseases can significantly worsen the mental state, cause social disadaptation of patients and it can be one of the leading etiological factors of neurotic, affective, behavioral, and addictive manifestations. It is pathogenetically justified to include various psychocorrective techniques in the complex therapy of chronic (especially itchy) dermatoses. It has been demonstrated that underestimation of comorbid conditions results in selection of inadequate therapeutic strategies that do not take into account the entire spectrum of etiological and pathogenetic factors, which leads to chronic course of the diseases and significant decrease in the quality of life. The integrative approach and cooperation of various specialists (dermatovenereologists, cosmetologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and clinical psychologists) is the most rational approach for adequate management of these patients.
