Objective: to reveal the morphological features of the viscera of fetuses that died from antenatal hypoxia. Material and methods. An observation group included 55 antenatally died fetuses at 23—40 weeks of singleton pregnancy with unclear pathogenesis and tanatogenesis: at 23—27.5 weeks (n=7), 30—36.5 weeks (n=28), and 37—40 weeks (n=20). The investigation used a mor-phological examination of fetal organs and tissues, culture studies, and diagnosis of infection markers in the fetal tissue samples by polymerase chain reaction. Results. Based on a previous investigation of the clinical and morphological features of the fetoplacental unit, the author iden-tified 2 types of fetal losses after antenatal hypoxia, by showing: 1) fetal hypotrophy, low placen-tal weight, and preterm villous maturity; 2) placental immaturity in relation to gestational age, as well as fetal angiopathy, and higher placental weight. The two previously identified types of an-tenatal losses were established to differ in the histological pattern of fetal tissues and organs. In full-term pregnancy, type 2 was characterized by gestational immaturity of the adrenal glands, myocardium, liver, thymus, spleen, and pancreas. Conclusion. The found morphological features of tissues and organs in type 2 antenatal losses may cause fetal circulatory decompensation and be suggestive of obvious and prolonged antenatal hypoxia and the autoimmune mechanisms of an intrauterine conflict and hyperglycemia in a pregnant woman.
