From the current perspectives the review considers the neuroimmune mechanisms of preeclampsia that is a severe pregnancy complication. It presents different hypotheses for the development of preeclampsia. It also gives the results of determination of serum neuron-specific enolase levels in pregnant women with preeclampsia. Immunomodulatory cytokines are stressed to play a deciding role in nervous system-immune system interactions.
