The paper considers whether ultrasound diagnosis may be used to define the causes of recurrent genital descent and prolapse in women. Clinical diagnosis permits the presumption of reasons for failures to attempt to correct prolapse. The ultrasound (US) symptomatology of recurrences is given on the basis of analysis of transvaginal and perineal US scanning results in 68 patients who have undergone surgery for genital descent and prolapse. Analysis of the data of an ultrasound study using functional tests in repeat prolapse correction and stress incontinence allowed identification of 4 groups of causes that worsen the prognosis of surgical treatment and make resurgery necessary.
