AIM OF STUDY. THE AIM OF THE STUDY

Was to identify signs of musculo-articular dysfunction and the frequency of their occurrence in patients with combined dentition defects diagnosed during the main and additional examination methods.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study involved 67 patients: 8 men and 59 women with combined dentition defects according to the classification of E.I. Gavrilov. The age of the study participants ranged from 25 to 80 years.

RESULTS

It was found that patients with combined dentition defects during the initial examination more often present classic complaints: an aesthetic defect, difficulty in chewing food. The most sensitive muscles in dysfunctional conditions of the dentoalveolar system, during palpation, are: lateral pterygoid muscle (59.7% of cases), masseter muscle (37.31% of cases), medial pterygoid (28.36% of cases), temporal muscle (25.37% of cases). In most cases (83.5%), the dysfunction proceeded against the background of a combination of developmental anomalies and deformities of the dentition, which became one of the mechanisms for the development of lower jaw displacements.
